Three Hyperscalers Commit 5.7 GW in 24 Hours—OpenAI, AMD Drive July 28 to Record Single-Day Capacity Pledges

BlackRock's $10B Meta buy, Google's $5B Nvidia transaction, and three other closes mark the highest power commitment in tracker history

## Three hyperscalers disclosed power commitments totaling 5.7 GW on July 28, the largest single-day capacity pledge in DC Hub's transaction tracker.

OpenAI led with 3.2 GW; AMD followed with 2.5 GW. Flexential added 108 MW in a Dallas-adjacent land acquisition (Talty, TX), while BlackRock closed a $10 billion Meta transaction and Google acquired Nvidia assets for $5 billion. The six deals combined represent more disclosed capacity in one day than the prior 14-day rolling average (4.1 GW).

## What it means for site selection

The 5.7 GW total exceeds the entire excess-capacity headroom in ERCOT's top three markets—Midland–Odessa (85.7 excess), Cheyenne (72.5 excess), and Upper Peninsula Michigan (73.5 excess)—combined. Hyperscalers are committing power faster than ISO queues can absorb in even the highest-scoring regions, which implies:

- **Time-to-power, not land cost, is the binding constraint.** Markets with sub-24-month interconnection windows (Cheyenne at 22.5 months, Midland–Odessa tightening to 22.8 constraint score) will reprice.
- **Second-tier markets with 60+ excess scores and existing substations become premium targets.** The July 28 commitments cannot all land in the same three metros.
- **M&A valuations for powered sites just reset.** BlackRock's $10B Meta close and the $5B Google-Nvidia deal reflect the new cost of certainty: buying existing grid connections rather than queuing for new ones.
